Scholarship Reception
by Fr. Chris McPeak, Rector
My Dear and Giving Good Samaritans,
A little less than a month ago I had the opportunity of attending the Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) Scholarship Reception with Terry and Steve Foster and Heather Olson. This event celebrates the recipients and donors of a huge variety of scholarships to help make tuition and life in school possible. This event is one of the highlights of the Faith In Action calendar as well.
In case you weren’t aware, Good Sam has committed to providing two scholarships per year to students at LWTech. Because of the generosity of this parish, we have been able to award eight separate three-thousand-dollar scholarships to students since this program began. It is an incredible example of the care and kindness that this parish shows the community.
The reception provides a glimpse into the diversity and range, not only of LWTech, but also of the organizations providing assistance. It became apparent in the packed event space that the number of donors and recipients is phenomenal. During the course of the reception there was time to hear moving speeches from two recipients whose lives changed dramatically after having the help to complete their programs. We also had delicious food provided by the culinary arts program and dahlias grown by the horticulture program were gifted to each attendee.
And, while our recipient wasn’t able to attend it was inspiring to see all of the good that these students are ready to do with their new credentials.
Thank you for your generosity, Good Sam! You truly are helping to make a difference in the world.
Peace,
