What to Expect

Welcome to the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church website!  At Good Samaritan you will find people from all walks of life who share in common the desire to encounter the living God and experience the life-giving power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Wherever you are in your spiritual journey—wondering, full of faith, or somewhere in between—you are welcome at Good Samaritan!

What is the service like and how long does it last?

Worship services at Good Samaritan follow the pattern of the Episcopal/Anglican liturgy.  In the first part of the service we hear readings from the Bible, followed by a sermon (usually 12-15 minutes), and prayers.  In the second half of the service bread and wine are blessed, and then given to all who desire to receive Holy Communion.

8:00am Worship Service

The 8am service is a quiet, contemplative service with no music. The 8am service lasts about 40 minutes.

10:30am Worship Service

The 10:30am service features music, a choir, and is more celebratory in nature.  The 10:30am service lasts about an hour or so and is followed by a coffee and social hour in the Narthex.

5:00pm Compline Service

The 5pm service, which has a steady core group including our youth, is an informal Compline Evening Service.  Youth Group immediately follows.

You’ll be welcomed by a greeter or usher, who will give you a service bulletin and answer any questions you have.  The bulletin is easy to follow, and contains all the readings from the Bible and the prayers, along with notes to guide you through the service.

Where do I park?

There is plenty of parking onsite!  If you are worshiping with us for the first time, special parking for guests is located directly in front of the church entrance.

What about children?

Children of all ages are welcome at any service.

The nursery ministry at Good Samaritan is devoted to caring for your little ones on Sunday mornings beginning at 9:00am so that you can have confidence in their care while participating in church activities (adult forum/education at 9:15am and the 10:30am worship service). We provide two professional trained staff to care for your children aged birth to age 3.  The nursery is found in the first classroom in the undercroft. Child care staff provides bible story related arts and crafts.

Sunday School

Godly Play, or Sunday School, for children is offered at 9:15am for ages 4 through 5th grade.  Sunday School is also offered for Middle and High School students at 9:15am. Youth group is offered Sunday evenings from 5:15-7pm for 6th grade and above.

Children are encouraged to participate in the worship service, and may receive Holy Communion at the discretion of the parents.  Ask an usher or greeter for directions to the nursery or for an activity bag for children.

Family Room

A family room is located at the rear of the sanctuary, and can be used by nursing mothers or parents during the worship services.  Audio of the service can be heard, and the room is equipped with books and sanitary supplies.

What should I wear?

You will find people dressed casually, formally, and anywhere in-between.  Just wear whatever is comfortable to you.
