Christmas decorations seem to go up earlier and earlier every year. But for us as a church, we wait until Christmas to celebrate Christmas. The weeks leading up to Christmas Eve are a time of preparation and waiting—a season we call Advent. We find Christmas to be more meaningful by intentional preparing our lives and our hearts for the coming of Christ.

Advent Events

Advent Lessons & Carols – December 2nd, 5–6:30 pm

Lessons & Carols is a scripted service of alternating readings and songs that tell God’s story from creation to the prophets. We may not sing your favorite Christmas carols (because it’s Advent), but you might learn some new favorites!

Carols & Cookies – December 16, 5–6:30 pm

Who doesn’t love a good Christmas singalong? Celebrate the season with your favorite carols, cookies, and cocoa at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church. Everyone in the neighborhood is welcome to attend this fun family event. (Psst! We heard that St. Nick would stop by after the singing!)

Advent Adult Formation: Journeying the Way of Love

For the season of Advent, we will offer three sessions to prepare for Christ’s coming by moving through the first two chapters of Luke and exploring how to put our faith in action. We’ll also discuss taking on or living more deeply into at least one of the Christian disciplines each week.
  • December 2 – The Annunciation: Saying “Yes” to the Journey
  • December 9 – The Birth of John the Baptist: Journeying with Community
  • December 16 – The Birth of Jesus: Journeying with the World (Special guests from La Iglesia Episcopal de la Resurrección in Mt. Vernon will attend.)
  • December 23 – No adult formation this Sunday
