Serving the Community at Large

Good Samaritan Outreach Committee encourages, challenges and coordinates parish involvement in various ways that feed the hungry, house the homeless, and clothe the naked in our community, around our Diocese and throughout the world.

Read our new Ministry Guide Here!

The following is a list of our on-going projects that Good Samaritan Church sponsors throughout the year:

* Adopt-a-Road
Adopt-a-Road: Twice a year we roll up our sleeves and clean up our road - 244th Ave NE.  Not only is this a wonderful opportunity to clean up Good Sam's immediate environment, it's an excellent time to get to better know your fellow parishioners.

* Eastside Baby Corner
Eastside Baby Corner:  is an non-profit organization in Issaquah that collects items used by children from birth to age twelve and distributes them to service providers who work with families in need.  They act as a distributor supplying basic items to over 160 shelters, food banks, public health nurses, social workers, and others. Good Samaritan has a long history of supporting the Eastside Baby Corner in a variety of ways, even serving as a drop-off point for donations in the past.

* Feeding the Hungry
Feeding the Hungry:  Our fall campaign was a great success. We have started our “2009 Feed the Hungry” campaign now going on during Lent. Together with our preschool parents we hope to reach our goal to collect 1,000 pounds of food by Easter. We will be donating to Issaquah Food Bank, the Redmond Food Bank and the Gethsemane Lutheran Soup Kitchen.  On the first Sunday of each month our open plate donations will go to "Feeding the Hungry".

* Gifts of Warmth
Gifts of Warmth:  Blankets collected and donated to Sharehouse to support local area homeless and needy.  The Sharehouse is a program of the Church Council of Greater Seattle.

* Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity:  In 2007 a team of dedicated parishioners help to build a home for the Berrios family.  Habitat for Humanity’s purpose is to build homes and sell them at no profit to qualified families.

* Hopelink
Hopelink:  Since 1971, Hopelink has served homeless and low income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities.  Hopelink’s mission is to promote self-sufficiency for all members of our community; we help people make lasting change.  Hopelink emergency service centers are located in Bellevue, Kirkland, Northshore, Redmond, Shoreline and Sno-Valley. In the past we have collected kid-friendly food bank items for the “End Summer Hunger” program to support Hopelink.

* Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child:  Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. People of all ages can be involved in this simple, hands-on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas-Jesus Christ. This year we will be filling boxes on November 9th.

* Palm Sunday Socks
Palm Sunday Socks Project:  Good Samaritan has been gathering socks on Palm Sunday since 1994 when we became aware through our then Deacon, Mary Gould, that there was a need for socks for "street kids" in Seattle. These young people suffer many serious foot problems because of not having clean, dry socks.  Last year we collected  481 pairs of socks. This years goal is 500! For more information please contact Kris Jessett.

* Tent City
Tent City:  We have prepared and served dinner for Tent City, a community of homeless folks that temporarily resided in downtown Issaquah on the grounds of the Community Church of Issaquah.

* Episcopal Relief & Development
Episcopal Relief and Development:  Working in partnership with the worldwide Church, ecumenical agencies and local organizations, Episcopal Relief & Development saves lives and strengthens communities around the world. Our programs work toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals, which aim to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015.

*Outreach Sunday
Outreach Sunday:  The first Sunday of each month the open plate offering will go to our current outreach project.

If you would like to get involved in any of these projects please contact the office at 425-868-2123.
